Letter From Comer

Here's a touching letter from Comer Children's Hospital thanking our donors for their help and donations in 2012.

The Child Life and Family Education Program at Comer Children’s Hospital would like to thank you for your support this holiday season. Your contribution to our program through Chicago Loot Drop and Child’s Play Charity helped make the holidays magical for each of our hospitalized children and their families. We thought you would enjoy learning about the impact donations had during this holiday season.

The holiday season is a child’s most anticipated time of year. This time should be filled with excitement and joy. The challenges of having a hospitalized child during the holidays are unimaginable for most of us. Your generous donation helped to alleviate some of the pressures on our families during this holiday season as parents could focus more on their ill child, and less on worrying about how they will provide gifts for their children.

Whether celebrating Christmas or Hanukkah, your donation made it possible for children of all religions to enjoy the magic of the season. One parent took a deep sigh of relief at the offer to receive Hanukkah gifts for her hospitalized child and his siblings. She did not expect anything at all. When the gifts were delivered she became tearful and said words could not express her gratitude.

On Christmas day, Santa brought smiles to many as he delivered gift bags to every child; from the tiniest NICU babies to the teenagers. One mom had tears of joy as gifts were delivered for her new baby girl born prematurely on Christmas Eve. Another family later stated it was a Christmas they will never forget. Their little six-year-old girl was so excited to see Santa that she became speechless. Mom said, “I’ve never seen her so quiet!” As soon as Santa left the room, she exclaimed “Santa did find me!” She immediately began to open her gifts and as Santa was later leaving the unit she ran out to give him a big hug.

Your donations helped to make the holidays a reality for our hospitalized children and families. Many of our families are faced with additional emotional and financial challenges during the holiday season. Thank you for making a difference. We look forward to continuing our partnership with you in the future and welcome donations throughout the entire year.
